More Than a Ride: Spoke Is Becoming a Community
There are weeks where growth looks obvious.
Another strong Saturday showing. Great mix of new faces and seasoned members.
More rides.
More riders.
More photos.
More messages.
More moving pieces.
The deeper thing happening with Spoke right now is not just growth.
It is connection.
This past week, Spoke had at least four different ride opportunities moving through the community. The first Thursday Night Thunder brought out the spicy legs. Saturday Social continued to anchor the week. Sunday gravel gave people another way to explore together. Sunday mountain bike created space for another version of the community to show up.
All told, somewhere around 40+ people rode bikes together through Spoke this week.
That is incredible.
Not because we are chasing a number.
Not because bigger automatically means better.
It is incredible because people are finding each other.
People are texting, coordinating, inviting, showing up, trying something new, riding a little farther, riding a little harder, or simply finding a reason to get out the door.
That is the whole point.
Spoke was never meant to be just a ride on a calendar. It was never meant to be one person standing at the front of a group telling everyone where to go. It was meant to become a living, breathing community where people can find movement, friendship, confidence, and connection.
This week felt like another step in that direction.
More Doors Into the Community
One of the most exciting parts of this week was seeing how many different versions of riding can live under the same roof.
Thursday Night Thunder has started to create space for stronger riders and spicy efforts.
The first Thursday Night Thunder tackled Montezuma.
Saturday Social continues to be the steady invitation.
The welcoming entry point.
The ride where someone can show up, meet people, and know they will not be left behind.
Gravel got moving again this weekend.
Sunday gravel opened another door.
Sunday mountain bike opened yet another one.
That matters.
Not every ride needs to be for every rider. A strong cycling community needs multiple ways in. Some people want a relaxed social spin. Some want to climb hard. Some want dirt. Some want coffee. Some are brand new. Some are returning after time away. Some are looking for fitness. Some are looking for friendship.
Spoke is slowly becoming a place where all of that can exist.
The Kits Are Here
Full Spoke Kits have arrived.
Another huge milestone: Spoke kits have started arriving.
The initial production run has shipped, and most kits have now been delivered. Seeing the kit out in the real world is a pretty special thing. What started as a logo, a few colors, and a wild idea is now something people are wearing on bikes through the mountains.
That matters.
Not because a jersey makes a community real.
Because it gives us a shared symbol. It gives people something to rally around. It gives this little thing we are building a visible presence out on the road, on the path, on the pass, and in the coffee shop afterward.
The print-on-demand store is also expected soon. That means riders will be able to order a single jersey directly once the store link is live. No big preorder window. No minimum. Just a way to get a Spoke kit when the time is right.
More on that in the next few days.
A Small Strava Update
One more small but meaningful update: Spoke is now verified on Strava!
More than anything, this makes the Strava Club a more useful place to share ride updates, routes, blog posts, and community links. As Spoke continues to grow across Summit County, it gives us one more simple way to help people stay connected and find their way into the community.
Small milestone. Big appreciation for everyone helping this take shape.
Patrick Is Away This Week
Patrick is away this week leading a bike tour from Aspen to Breckenridge.
On Thursday morning, he will be riding down Vail Pass and into Breckenridge sometime between roughly 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Anyone who happens to be out riding, commuting, cheering, heckling, or rolling around town is welcome to say hi.
Spoke continues even when Patrick is away.
That is one of the most important signs that this is working.
A real community does not depend on one person being present every single time.
A real community creates enough trust, momentum, and shared ownership that others can step in, host, suggest, lead, invite, and keep things moving.
Thursday Night Thunder Needs a Host This Week
First Thursday Night Thunder climb up Montezuma.
Thursday Night Thunder has started to become exactly what it was meant to be: a place for stronger riders, spicy efforts, and a little more intensity.
Patrick will be away this Thursday, so this is an open invitation for someone in the community to host it and keep the trend alive.
It does not need to be overcomplicated.
Pick a route. Communicate the vibe. Ride hard. Regroup when appropriate. Take care of each other.
Spicy does not mean careless. Strong does not mean exclusive. Thunder can still be community-first.
Saturday: Potential Loveland Pass Ride + Saturday Social
This Saturday is shaping up to have two possible ride tracks.
Tom is exploring a Loveland Pass ride from Idaho Springs. The route would be roughly 50 miles and would likely draw some of the stronger riders looking for a bigger mountain day.
At the same time, the regular Saturday Social may still take place from Rocky Mountain Coffee Roasters in Frisco.
This is exactly the kind of “yes, and” moment that Spoke is growing into.
Some riders want the bigger climb. Some riders want the familiar social rhythm. Some riders are new and just need the comfort of knowing they can show up, ride, and not get dropped.
There is room for all of that.
We do not need every ride to serve every rider. We need enough doors into the community that people can find the version that fits them.
Sunday: Mountain Bike Demo Day
On Sunday, June 14, Patrick will be joining the Pivot Cycles mountain bike demo day at The Cove Bike Shop.
The plan is to get out for roughly a 90-minute demo ride and let Patrick be a beginner on a mountain bike.
Come ride.
Come help.
Come laugh.
Come remember that everyone starts somewhere.
One of the best parts of Spoke is watching people cross over into different types of riding. Road riders trying gravel. Gravel riders trying mountain. Mountain bikers joining social road rides. Strong riders slowing down. New riders getting braver.
That is community.
Not perfection.
Participation.
What This Week Shows Us
This week shows that Spoke is becoming more than one recurring ride.
It is becoming a network.
A place where people can show up in different ways. A place where riders can host. A place where new friendships can form. A place where a Saturday coffee ride, a Thursday hammer ride, a Sunday gravel ride, and a mountain bike demo can all belong under the same roof.
That is the vision.
Not just more cyclists.
More connected cyclists.
More people who feel invited.
More people who know each other’s names.
More people who can say, “I was nervous to show up, but I’m glad I did.”
That is what we are building.
One ride at a time.
Riding together. Growing together.
Don’t forget to read the Field Guide if you are new around these parts! Welcome!
