The Wheels Are Turning

This past Saturday, we held our first official Saturday Social Ride of the season!

Cyclists from Spoke gather for the first official Saturday Social Ride of the season in Summit County, Colorado

First official Saturday Social Ride of the season. Same Saturday rhythm, new season energy.

Honestly, that feels worth pausing for.

Not because one ride changes everything.
Not because one Saturday suddenly makes a full season.
Because consistency starts somewhere.

A community rhythm starts somewhere.
A familiar weekly gathering point starts somewhere.

For Spoke, Saturday mornings are becoming that anchor.

The goal has always been simple: create a welcoming place for people to ride, connect, and find community here in Summit County. Some weeks will be big. Some weeks will be small. Some rides will have perfect weather. Some will involve a little wind, a little uncertainty, and a few layers too many or too few.

That is all part of it.

What matters is that people keep showing up.

This first official Saturday ride felt like the beginning of the next chapter. Season 2 is no longer just something we are talking about. It is starting to move. Wheels are turning. People are reconnecting. New riders are finding their way in. The community is beginning to take shape again after winter.

This year, the intention is consistency.

Not perfection.
Not pressure.
Not trying to be everything all at once.

Just steady movement forward.

What’s Coming This Week

This week, we are also preparing the May newsletter, and there are a few important updates coming with it.

The May edition will include a look at where Spoke is heading next, upcoming ride opportunities, and a few new community features that we are excited to begin building into the rhythm of the season.

One of those features is the beginning of our member spotlight series.

The heart of Spoke has never been just the rides. It is the people. The different backgrounds, stories, goals, personalities, and reasons we all find our way to the bike. Some people are here to train. Some are here to make friends. Some are here to rediscover joy, confidence, fitness, or a sense of belonging.

The member spotlight is a way to help us get to know each other beyond just a helmet, sunglasses, and a bike.

We are also working on more community partner spotlights, highlighting local people, businesses, and resources that support cyclists and active people in Summit County. Spoke is not meant to exist in a vacuum. Part of the vision is to become a hub that helps connect people to the broader cycling and wellness community around us.

The Orientation One-Sheet

Along with the May newsletter, we are planning to release a new Spoke orientation one-sheet.

Think of it as a simple “start here” guide for new and current members.

As the community grows, it becomes more important to make the rhythm clear.

Where do rides meet?
What happens in the WhatsApp group?
What are the subgroups for?
How do people organize their own rides?
What is the bigger vision behind all of this?

The one-sheet will help explain the basics.

It will include things like:

Where to find updates.
How the Saturday Social Ride works.
How to use the WhatsApp community without feeling overwhelmed.
How members can invite others.
What subgroups currently exist.
Most importantly, the reminder that Spoke is not just about Patrick hosting rides and everyone else showing up.

That has never been the full vision.

The deeper goal is for people to find community with each other.

Everyone does not have to know me.
Everyone does not have to ride with me.
Everyone does not have to be my friend.

Spoke works best when members begin connecting, riding, organizing, and supporting one another.

That is when it becomes a true community.

A Season Built on Small Repetitions

This week feels like a good reminder that community is built in small repetitions.

One ride.
One introduction.
One text in the group chat.
One person showing up even when they are unsure.
One Saturday that turns into another.

That is how momentum begins.

We are still early in the season. The weather will continue to move around. Routes may change. Some weeks will be more organized than others. There will be plenty to figure out as we go.

However, he foundation is getting stronger.

The first official Saturday Social Ride is in the books.

The May newsletter is on the way.

The orientation one-sheet is coming soon.

Little by little, Spoke is becoming what it was meant to be: a consistent, welcoming cycling community built around movement, connection, and shared experience.

Thanks to everyone who came out this weekend, everyone who has been following along, and everyone who is helping this thing grow one ride at a time.

Let’s go!
